The Complete Guide To Day Trading

Hi Markus,

I have liked the eBook very much.
I have found more information in the eBook than in some other expensive books and seminars.
Thank you.

Best regards
Giuseppe

Will get to it ASAP!

Hi and thanks for the free offer but i just wanted to let you know that i am still going to buy this and your other books as soon as i get a chance. Keep up the good work!.

The Complete Guide to Day Trading

Markus,

I enjoyed your Futures 301 webinar. I downloaded the ebook and found the material easy to read and understand. I have read many similar books but found yours to be the most direct and understandable. I have a nephew who is just starting out in the field of trading and I will forward this link to him. Money management needs to learned early in the business of trading.

In the Futures 301 class you showed a Money management spreatsheet which had starting equity, margin, Delta, Max DD and $goal per week. If you would share this template I would appreciate it.

The most important information I got out of the webinar was the stop loss calculation. Ive done some paper trading with the /ESM9 and I think this information will be very helpful.

Thanks,

Don Mans

Re: Template

Hi Don,

Thanks a lot for the feedback. Much appreciated.

Please send me an email to support@rockwelltrading.com and I will send you the template that I used in that webinar right away.

Talk to you soon.

I feel like a kid in a candy store

Hi Mark,

I just finished reading Day Trading Mind e-book. It was a lesson to be caution (check the water temperature before you go in).

I just starting to read "Who Should Be Day Trading?" from THE COMPLETE GUIDE TO DAY TRADING. This is like the kid in the candy store. The information I'm looking for is finally here at my reach.

This is a part of my year research (education) before I start-hopefully starting trading by this time next year. If you have any more information that can help me, please let me know.

Thank you very much for helping through this process.

Andy

Thank You!
I have been in the Forex markets for 4-5 years, have done online classes, read books etc. Nothing is like being in the real markets with real money, we all need friends right here with us and this book has made me believe that you are my friend! Thank you!

Hi Markus,

Thanks for the ebook. I just downloaded it now. I have been trading the forex for about a year now and still losing money. I hope this book will help me stop the trend. I will start reading right a way. Thanks

MIstake in eBook?

Markus,

I appreciate your efforts to help those of us who are trying to learn to trade. Sending your E-books is helpful and convenient. Even though I had already purchased your book, it is nice to have it on my computer to use as a reference without having to leave my trading station.

One question I have concerns page 138. In the writing above and below the chart you indicate buy and sell signals differently from what is on the chart. Which is correct? Or am I missing something? I am new to trading so I may have just misunderstood. If you could clear this up for me I would be grateful.

Thank you for your help.

PS: Your book is the best I have read. And I am reading everything I can to learn how to trade.

Re: Mistake in eBook?

Hi Carroll,

Thanks for your feedback!

And yes, you are right! Wow, we had 26 revisions of the eBook and I asked more than 8 people to proofread it, and there's still a mistake.

The signals on the charts are correct, and the text above the chart should read:

  • A buy signal is generated when the fast-moving average crosses
the slow moving average from BELOW.
  • A sell signal is generated when the fast moving average crosses
the slow moving average from ABOVE.

Thanks for pointing it out. I'll correct it asap.

Free e-book

Markus,

Thank you for your generous gift.I downloaded your book Saturday and have been reading it religiously. In fact, my wife and I are making it our "Bible" of Day Trading. Our goal is to finish the book and then open a demo account by June 29th. Once we establish a winning record trading,we plan to open a mini account and begin by trading the Forex market with real dollars.

Again, I want to thank you for your generosity, integrity and for genuinely caring.Your book, webinars and internet articles have provided much guidance.

Sincerely,

John Ulzheimer

Good plan!

Hi John,

Thank you very much for your feedback!

Sounds like you have a great plan. The only thing I would change is "trading forex" for a variety of reasons. In addition to the reasons mentioned in the book you might want to take a look at the following response I wrote a couple of days ago:

Average Daily Range

Hi Markus,

Thanks for being so generous with the advice in the eBook which makes great reading besides being educational. On page 157 you mentioned the average daily range can be determined using the Average True Range. I would greatly appreciate if you could explain how it is done.

Philip

Re: Calculating the Average Daily Range

Hi Philip,

Thanks for your feedback. You're welcome. Smile

I received a lot of emails asking a similar question, so I decided to make a video in which I explain a simple day trading strategy and how the average daily range in calculated. You can watch the video here:

Hope this answers your question. If not, please let me know.

Re: eBook

LOL. Good idea! Laughing

Thanks for the ebook!

I downloaded your ebook, and I want to say thanks for it!

It's is exactly what I was needing so far. I'm about 20% into the book, and it is the basic trading-101 that I was looking for.

I have a mentor that has been trading for 40 years, and day-trading is how he earns his money. But I needed a course in the basics, so that I could talk the same language as he does, and your ebook is perfect for that.

My mentor owns a Internet ISP business, in which I mentor him. I'm the guy that started the first ISP, and I'm a Internet/network/unix expert. I just built a set of systems that turn his network into a visual set of charts... much like his trading charts...

I think he is hoping that I will have the head for the numbers, and help him improve on his already winning day-trading system. In these troubled times, jobs for people like me are few and far between, and I'm starting to get old enough to want to use my efforts in a smarter way.

In any event, you wanted some feedback, and so far I think your book is great. It's not going to be my only source of info, it's just the first step.

As for the fly-by-night system-selling scam artists out there... I'm the guy that started the public iteration of the Internet, and I know when something smells rotten. I'm aware of pump and dump, and how someone could use stock tips to manipulate the market in his own favor. I saw one guy giving away day-trading tiops for free, and if 2000 people make the same trade at the same time, is it logical that this would have an impact that might void the signal he is trying to make a position with? I'm no trading expert, in fact I'm not qualified to use the word trading in a sentence yet... But taking trading advice from an anonymous guy giving tips for free, well that has a smell you cannot ignore.

I live with the "Hello, I am contacting you because I need to move 25 million dollars" scams flowing by in the thousands per day (I run a mail server for 10,000 people), and I was in the wake of Enron, and I saw the stock manipulation chat rooms when those were in the news... So I can appreciate your warning not to be taken by the scammers...scammer, spammer, it's all the same thing... Thugs trying to see how many stupid americans they can clean up on, or kids trying to make adults look silly.

In any event, Thanks again for the ebook. If you ever need any help or advice from an Internet/unix guru, let me know.

Re: Thanks for the ebook!

George,

Thanks for the great comment!

And yes, you are absolutely right about these "pump-and-dump" schemes. And they are getting more sophisticated: Years ago they offered "free stock tips" and some people fell for it. These days they started offering software that creates these "hot stock lists" for you. And since they charge a nominal price for the software, people think it must be legitimate.

I see these guys running massive affiliate and MLM promotions to get the software in the hands of as many people as possible. And this creates the same effect like the "free stock tips" that we saw 2-3 years ago.

I guess I should write an article about these "pump-and-dump" schemes and make sure that everybody understands how they work, so that nobody falls for them any more!

Talk to you soon,

Markus

Free Day Trade book

A good book for reading about sound basics for trading, and providing a footing for the novice trader whilst also catering for intermediate traders in reminding about the basic's.

One typo, as far as Im aware, the US left the gold standard in 1970 rather than embracing the gold standard. ref page 89 quote "In the 1970s, the United States adopted the Gold Standard, creating an important place in the U.S. economy for gold"

The US ditched the Gold standard in favour of the current debt based fiat currency of federal reserve notes.

Thanks for the read.

I am getting through the book and I can say that I like it very much. Very helpful book indeed. Thanks Markus

EBook

I was searching for a book to help my friends get a good start to understand trading. I read this ebook "The Complete Guide to Day Trading" and found it useful for beginners and seasoned traders. I am in the process of moving from a part-time trader to fulltime. This book outlined a complete approach to understanding the necessary steps to becoming a successful fulltime trader. Thanks for the info and guidance!

Feedback

Thank you for letting me have a copy to read. It is a nice overview, but seems a little dated. I think it would be good if you mentioned Metatrader 4.0 charting platform, as it is so popular and easy to use. Also I think if would be good if your 'broker' section mentioned 'market makers' and ECNs.

Hi Shella,

That's good feedback. Thank you.

I wrote the book less than 2 years ago, but our industry is changing rapidly. I will try to update the book in the upcoming months.

Metatrader?

If I am correct though isn't Metatrader for Forex only?

Complete Information

Hi Markus,

I did download the ebook, and I'm up to page 50's at this time. I still work regular 8-4 job, so I'm trying to read your ebook during my break or after I get home. For your information, I've been practicing my forex demo account for the almost 6 months now, I think I'm getting better, but my confidence level is not up to the level that I expect it to be. So, for right now, I'm just trying to be patience, and practicing as much as possible with the demo account. Essentially, I try to do both gathering as many knowledge as possible from the net, ebook or whatever I could get into and practicing/backtesting system/information on my demo account. The problem I've been facing so far is practice time, when office gets pretty busy, and I have to stay late, sometimes I just do not have enough energy left to get my hands on the demo account. That's what I hate about regular job, but I'm pretty serious about becoming forex trader.

As for your book, I do enjoy it. It has a complete information about almost everything people need to know to start trading, you even include how to choose software/software evaluation and pyscological aspects of trading, which other book/website tends to ignore. Most other ebook/book only talks about strategy and nothing else. I do not know about you, but from my personal opinion trading is 30% technical, the rest is just your psycological.
That's why I like your book

Thank you for your attention and keep in touch!!

Yohanes

I have donwloaded the ebook and read it over one weekend. It was very captivating. I found the information extremely useful and very well presented. Well done.

Great Book

Hi Marcus.
Congratulations on a great book.

I would not say that it is the only book you should read if you want to be a trader, but definately one that i apreciated and can recomend to others who want start trading.
The book covers the basics and is worth going back in to reread the chapters you think is of most importance to you.

Sure, as Marcus mentions, and as in any education you need more education than just this book. But it is a great start and a great inspirational source.

Thanks

Hi Markus,

Thanks for for the ebook. I spent the whole of Saturday digesting your lessons and found particular value in the section on drawing trendlines and whether or not the stock is trending or trading sideways. One day (after 2 1/2 years now) the light will come on and I will be profitable.

Welcome to the USA, we came here from SA 22 years ago and became citizens last year. Quite a change isn't it?

Best regards and thanks again,

Doug.

Thank you very much for this

Thank you very much for this ebook. As a novice to Day Trading, I'm reading it very slowly to absorb as much as I can, and no doubt I'll be reading it a second time. Thank you!

Ebook

Thank you for the ebook, I am about halfway through it and have already come across a few things that I didn't know (setting up trend lines correctly). I am "trading" with a spread bet dealer so not quite the same as actual forex - my area of interest. Whilst interesting, I do find it very frustrating (and costly) trying to set up good entry points and generally take what ever profit I can, rather than 1.5 to 2x my stop. Consequently I have lost 1/2 my capital! So, if I don't start improving soon, It shall be a short lived experiment with forex!

re-organization

I am deeply grateful for the ebook. I have never been told these things, like only making one trade per week when I start. This reveals a very high order of understanding, and I can recognize your intelligence and experience in every chapter. When I started day trading, I started out scalping to make money. I soon learned that this method only returned small profits in relation to possible losses. I also thought that I had to trade every day which only led to more losses when the market was not ready.

This book has so much wisdom that I do not want give it away. The author is doing that already. I will purchase a copy for myself this week and I am very happy for being able to start reading it in advance.

Thank you.

the E_Book

I just had to do an email search to find it. I finally started reading it three days ago and couldn't put it down, but I had to. Then I couldn't find it. I will remove it from the mail as soon as I'm done typing this!

It's wonderful so far and I am amazed that you can give this away. It will certainly help me not to repeat some mistakes I've made in general trading.

I plan to start daytrading soon and I will be following your sensible and valuable advice.

Thanks again and thanks for asking. You're a wonderful person.

Thanks a lot, you've given me a new life.

Feedback about "The Complete Guide To Day Trading"

Hi Markus,

Let me first thank you for this gift. I started to look for day trading information since a month now and this book is in my opinion the best suitable for a beginner like me : I read it in 2 days (next step will be to apply it).

The less I can do now is give you my feedback about the book. As you know I am a beginner, so my comments does not concern efficiency of concepts/methods facing the real word but the way they are introduced/organized in a training book. So, here is my feedback :

- All questions a beginner is wondering are covered. This book acts as a synthesis of incomplete pieces of information given in various books and forums. Moreover, all the material is sorted in the best logical order.

- Each main concept is detailled step by step and also followed by an example or a proof. All important concepts are often repeted several times along the book to be well understood.

- You successfully avoid old advert arguments that may push beginner to ruin. On the contrary, you fine explain how responsibilities are distributed between the trainee, your concepts/methods and the market.

- Language is easy for all non UK/American guys.

Thanks for your book.
Best regards,

Fred

Your book is good. It gives me a new sight for the daytrading. Thank you.

Easy to understand Book that lays a solid foundation for trading

Hi Markus,

Your book is one of the simplest and easiest to understand books that I've read before. Don't get me wrong, it's a book that explains the fundamentals of successful trading principles in real layman's terms, unlike many other books which are simply rehashed versions of many popularized trading rules.

I finished 2/3 of the book within 2 days.
There are many trading gems in this book, that included very simple yet accurate definition of support and resistance, the truth about Forex Trading being OTC products, etc, which are very eye-opening.

I truly enjoyed your book and would recommend to beginner and intermediate traders alike, as the many key points that you emphasize in your book can well be the guiding principles for novice traders, like myself.

Constructive comment

Hi,

Thank you so much for your kind follow-up email, to be honest with you I have not had a chance to read it yet! But I promiss I will.

How ever you might like to know that the type setting(size and font) is very small and un-inviting.

Although the pages are there, the writing is so small, that I personally dont enjoy reading it! and I am sure it could be said for many people!

If you could some how enlarge the format to fit the page,I think it would be much more user friendly. Thats my initial comment.

Regards.

Re: Constructive comment

Hi Reza,

Thanks for your comment.

Actually, you CAN enlarge the font:

The eBook is a PDF file which can be read with ADOBE READER. Using this reader you can zoom in and out and adjust the font to any size you want. Simple click on the magnifying glas or select VIEW - ZOOM.

Hope this helps.

Let me know if you need anything else.

very good book - should have

very good book - should have read earlier in my trading career

for newbie great, for an advanced trader boring

The ebook is impressive in that it goes into great details explaining the market, the tools available, and the mechanics of trading.

However, for someone who has traded for several years and has a reasonable level of experience, the book is frustrating since it does not reveal anything new that could improve a seasoned traders performance.

I got the e-book, and have read it once. Plan to go back and read it several times to digest it thoroughly. The information is concrete enough to begin using right away in conjunction with a good trading plan. Thank you.

I just downloaded the eBook. Thank you. I will read it over the next two weeks and let you know my comments.

For now, just wanted to say thank you.

So far I've found the book

So far I've found the book outstanding. I've just completed the section where u recommend using no smaller than 15 minute charts. This is the first area of difference with my style. I have been trading currencies on 2min to 5 min. I'm spending the weekend back testing my system on 15 min chts. One of the key lessons I'm seeing is my lack of tolerance for losses and my lack of patience is forcing me to trade the short time frames. Thanks for the valuable lessons.

"The Complete Guide to Day Trading" download

Very sound logic went into this book. After glancing at the PDF file, I went ahead and printed the entire book out so I can make some notes right in the book. I've already identified areas that will improve my trading.

I listened to the audio "Cliff Notes" version and that was done equally as well. My printed off copy will be my working reference book of day trading for now on.

Thank you Markus for making this book easy to receive and for sharing your experience with us.

thanks for sharing eBook

I liked the book's realistic, yet optimistic tone and succinct style and what you chose for content. I agree with what you believe is relevant for success. Of course a "complete" guide would be much longer. But what you should be thinking about to start, absolutely.

I enjoyed reading because I

I enjoyed reading because I realized how much I have been doing correctly. Particularly taking set profits and setting stop losses.
However I need better software and will explore metastock and esignal, so that is what I took as most significant from the book.
Keep emotions in check, know when Not to trade, and avoid greed.

ebook comment

Hi Markus just a note to say thank you for the opportunity of downloading your ebook The Complete Guide to Day Trading. I am a relative newbee at trading with a clear handle on a good trading strategy based on the Daniel Code Web Site but my main problem is detailed (with some accuracy) on page 217 concerning Not Controlling Your Emotion. In particular, as an emotional sort of NZ chappie, I have seen many of the protocols unfold in front of me with amazing accuracy and I either fail to take them resulting in guilt and dissapointment for not, when the go on to make 100 ticks, or take them while being heavily burdened with indecision and pulling too soon. I realise these are common emotions for the beginner and feel focused on the problem, which I would suspect is half the battle for recovery (along with brilliant support from my wife). So... although I haven't read all of the book yet, I found the chapter called The Traders Psyche of particular interest and appropriate to my strategy for building a progressive belief in my ability to become the controller of my emotions rather than 'them' controlling me. Once I've completed the book I'll no doubt be in touch again.

Thanks from down under (in the cold of winter)

Kind regards
Clive

Great beginers reading

the book is very clear, concise and easily written. As a new trader, I find it very useful.

Book Review

Reviewer Background: I've day traded for several years. I have a Ph.D. in adult education with strong background in research, statistics, and psychology. I've also served as an academic journal reviewer.

The following review of your book is presented mainly in outline form. Space precludes a more detailed discussion. I devote more space to "weaknesses" because I assume that you want to improve your work in the future.

Central Strengths
1. Good identification of topics relevant to day trading.

2. Succinct, but informative content. (Difficult to do on a subject of this nature.)

3. Appropriate emphasis on critical areas such as risk control, risk/reward, and practice (simulation).

Central Weaknesses
1. Inconsistency between time frame selection and charts. You recommend a 15-minute chart and then use 5-minute charts to illustrate in some places (pp. 86, 105, 120, 132ff.) Personally, I think a 15-min chart is unrealistic as a trade execution chart because stop-loss points are too great. Just about every day trader I know uses 3 or 5 minute charts.

2. The Trading Approach section (Part 2: Step 3) requires much more thought. You discuss some indicators with their basic uses, but really don't explain strategy in detail. What an indicator does and how it can be used are two different things. (See Wilder's New Concepts book, Bollinger's book on the bands, and Street Smarts by Raschke/Connors for examples on detailed explanations of strategy.)

3. Needs a more personal touch. This book has an academic feel to it. Readers would probably appreciate a few "war" stories from your own experience. Also, I think that most readers want to know what you do specifically in your own trading practice. Perhaps a section called "My Trading Day" would put some flesh on the bones you've discussed in this book. In the end, I came away with the feeling that you either don't know what you're doing, or more likely, you don't want to tell us. Both of these things are unacceptable in any book which purports to be a "complete guide." Be specific in describing what you do. (If you're concerned about lack of space, you can make room for new material by eliminating unnecessary coverage of basics, e.g., bar, candle, line charts.)

In general, day trading books tend to lean in one of two directions. They're either very academic (heavy on explanation, light on application) or very cook-bookish (heavy on technique, light on necessary explanation of other factors which influence trading performance). Your book leans slightly academic. Bring it more toward application, and I think you'll end up with a better product.

Re: Book Review

Hi there,

Thanks a lot for the detailed feedback. Much appreciated.

I think I understand what you mean, and here's my plan: Since this book is published, it's not very easy to make updates. It has to go through a lenghty review process. But I will make some videos outlining a trading strategy and also my personal story. As soon as I am done I'll email them to you.

I hope that this will bridge the gap.

Thanks again for the constructive feedback.

Markus

Feedback

Sorry, Just started reading yesterday and only on page 22.

E-book

Yes I got your book today and I just started to read it, I'm not a beginner but I appreciate a good trading plan to help improve my own plan. So I will give you a better answer when I finish this e-book, thank you.

The ebook seems to be a good

The ebook seems to be a good overall primer. But without actual examples of strategies, it would be difficult to pull it all together. For example, I think you mentioned in the ebook you had a strategy that had been working for four years.

That's probably what everyone really wants. It would, of course, have to come with the proper disclaimers explaining the strategy may only work in a particular market environment.

Strategy

Hi Donato,

Thanks for your feedback.

As I outlined in the eBook, there's MUCH more to trading than just having a trading strategy. However, I promise that I will share a specific trading strategy in the next couple of days. Look out for my email.

Talk to you soon,

Markus

The Complete PhD Idiot Guide To Day Trading

Thank you, it's a useful book. I'd modify the title:
"The Complete PhD Idiot Guide To Day Trading"

Free e-book

I have not had time to study the book in depth, but in perusing it briefly, I believe it will be a considerable help in my overall trading education. I will keep this page and let you know in detail when I finish it. Thank you in advance for making it available to everyone. I firmly believe a man needs to "learn to provide for himself - not just have provisions handed to him." In that vein, I do intend to earn a substantial amount in the markets - but, it is difficult and takes time to grow an account.

Thanks again

Very good information. Thank

Very good information. Thank you.

Completing reading your e-book

Thanks for the opportunity to read your e-book. Overall I thought it to be a good book for a beginner. But I would've included something on the "flag" or as I call them "steps" on a up or down trend. Using a 2 minute chart with the emini S&P or emini nasdaq after the first 5 to 10 minutes the market opens you can see resting areas on the trends way up or down. Excellent jumping on areas.

Feedback on your eBook, The Complete Guide to Day Trading

Markus,
First, thanks for your generosity and mindset in providing me a free copy. I judge a book usually by its Table of Contents. I have viewed those and find them to be quite thorough, to have orderly arrangement and to be inviting in their presentation. Sorry to say, I will read much of the book tonight. But right now I cannot give any further feedback.

I did get hold of my beloved brother and set him up so that he could order it today. He is getting into the meat of it already and anticipates finishing it soon.

Don (Kinney, my brother) day trades now, every day, and pulls out good results, though he is working with very limited capital. He has traded the markets off and on for over 50 years, trading daily now for the past four or five years.

If given the opportunity at a later time, I would be pleased to give you feedback after getting the chance to get into your book.

Thanks again,

Bill Kinney

A million thanks friend!

Aspiring Trader

The book looks pretty thorough just glancing at the table of contents. I am refreshed by your passionate statement that you are attempting to steer us aspiring traders in the right direction. I have been studying a lot about options trading on my own and am principally in the process of formulating my own trading strategy based on my risk tolerance. but first things first, I need to secure some start up capital. So thanks for the book.

Day Trading Ebook

So far, excellent. Will have further, more positive comment within next ten days. Personal and business considerations have made devoting the necessary time impossible for the moment.

Good Job!! Excellent Concept!! Thank you for your persistance.

Yes, I dowloaded the book. My comments

Markus,

I quickly looked at the Futures part of the book, and after taking only a few minutes to glance at one section, I already know what your book was explaining.

I am looking into trading the Front Month e-mini futures contract. I do a lot of programing, and am trying to come up with my own strategy based mostly on price action, and the Up Vol, Dwn Vol, Advancers, Decliners on the NYSE. I get just basic economic news releases from Briefing.com about the economy which seems to be all I really need for news to tell me what the general direction of the market is going to go.

Like I stated earlier, I do a lot of programing and am one of the biggest contributors on the yahoo group, http://finance.groups.yahoo.com/group/TOS_thinkscript/

I'm currently using thinkorswim for a broker, but will probably need something better for a trading DOM in the future.

your book

have not had a chance to read it. going on vacation and will read it than. thanks

Your book is not true

I just glanced at your book and it disgusted me. Day trading is one of the hardest things I have ever learned. I am successful trading and I also mentor (over 100 people in the last year).

My problems with what you say is this. You portray day trading as simple. All you need is a 1000 dollar acct. Anyone can do it.

As an honest trainer, I tell everyone that it will be the hardest thing they will ever do and they need at least $25K minimum (or more) and must be prepared to lose half of it before going profitable. I also tell them that after working with me for a week of one on one, they still may not be successful.

It is people who make day trading sound like a simple process that leaves a bad taste in one's mouth. In fact, it disgusts me and I view it a salesman's method to sell his product. Shame!!

Re: Your book is not true

Barry,

I wish you took the time to READ the book instead of just "glancing" at it. If you read a few chapters you would see that

  • I WARN people to jump into day trading without the proper education.
  • I tell everybody that trading is a business and should be treated as such.
  • Trading requires time, effort and commitment if you want to succeed.
  • Trading is not for everyone
  • etc.

Just take a look at the comments of all the people who actually read the book and you will see that this book is different and provides quality education.

I am looking forward to your comments after you read the book.

E-Book

Markus -

Thanks for the free book! I had downloaded the link and then forgot about until your email reminded. Just two chapters in and I'm very encouraged by it. I like the KISS mentality.

I recently paid for a course by a professional firm and it was a crazy experience. The firm very reputable and prominent but their Futures course was worthless mostly rehashed stuff from the www.cmegroup.com website.

I could have subscribed to your trade room for 15 months for the same amount of money !!!!

I look forward to finishing the book and possibly joining your trade room soon.

comments on your book

Excellent book with one exception. Just my opinion of course but I would have liked to see a summary section detailing how you trade in detail. From the time you get up, turn on your computer..what is the first thing you do?

By the way your comment regarding using a longer time chart for trading emini's or any fast moving product was the first time I have heard this from a pro. It is brilliant..and it took me a long time and a lot of money to get the idea.
All these gurus talk about tick charts and 1 minutes charts..and three minute.
I doubt that any of these people make the money they could make with longer period charts because the noise is fakeout country.

Here is what I do. I trade emini ES and EUR..and some others, but mostly those.
I get up, load up Interactive Brokers to my account. I then open up Quotetracker and get my 13 minute ES and EUR charts. I use price candles and so the next thing I do is back up the charts to see the trend..if there is one..and I draw pivot points. The highs form a pivot..and the lows. And there are minor pivots in between. My technicals are a CCI or 38,12 and I use MFI (money flow index). I basically trade reverses off of pivots. I have three criteria to take a trade off of a high or low. (1) Volume spike, (2) MFI and CCI
at extremes (MFI is above 70 or below 30, CCI is above 200 or below -200), (3)
the MFI and CCI hook and hold their hooks even at price backup. There are other slight deviations to this method, but they are unimportant. I enter the trade most often on the backup in price. I use Bracket Trader as a DOM..so I see a ladder of contracts. If I am going short from a top pivot, I will click my trade in below a high concentration of contracts..thereby letting the trade come to me. I normally use a five tick stop, but I will say this..if the trade does not go in my direction instantly..I will get out and try again.

This trade is over 90 percent effective. That's right..90%. I have had days when it was 100 percent. I give you this because you gave me the book. Try it out on a sim situation for a while and you will what I say is true.

Thanks again for your book

Nick

I appreciate your help

I enjoyed the book. It was one of those things where I hated to see it end. Too bad that I was not able to download the free forms at the end of the book.

I am a new, beginning trader that needs all the help I can get. I thought your information was accurate, truthful and very appropiate, as it tells it as it is. I have my system, but I still have problems testing it real time as some trades go the wrong way but I feel your book has helped to jump in or at least stick my toes in the water.

Mistake 2 in eBook ?

Hi Markus
Just finished reading your ebook and loved it. I'm already implementing your ideas in my trading strategy for Crude Oil. Unless I missed something, the text on page 115 is rather confusing "but at the same time, we are experiencing a higher high after a series of lower highs."

Thanks again.

Re: Mistake 2 in eBook ?

Hi Art,

Thanks for your comment.

And NO, this is NOT a mistake. In a downtrend, you will see that a market makes several lower lows in a row, and you can't draw a trendline. You have to wait until the market makes a higher low AND a higher high in order to draw a line.

Does this help?

Markus

Hi Markus

this book is really great stuff. However I've been already thru all this taking
Trading Seminars with Larry Williams many years back.
I'm doing well as position Trader in just a few commodities and can not sit the
hole day in front of my computers.
In other words I will probably never be Daytrader.
But I thank You for this good book.

Jo

Re: Larry Williams

Hi Joe,

Thanks for the feedback.

Good to hear that you are doing well with position trading. Day trading does NOT mean sittting in front of the computer every day. In fact, I personally prefer to watch the markets only in the first two hours after the opening, and there are days when I don't look at my charts at all.

Trading on a larger timeframe like daily and weekly charts means that you have to use larger stop losses. Many aspiring traders like to start with a rather small account, therefore they need to trade on a smaller timeframe to keep their stop losses rather small.

Anyhow, as you know every trader is different, and I encourage all traders to find a trading style that fits YOUR personality and supports YOUR trading goals. Seems that you have found a trading approach that works for you! Smile

Book Report

I am half way thru your book. nice read so far, especially like setting up the platforms and charts. Wish I had these 3 months ago before I started my quest. the book also would have been helpful before I signed onto you seven day trail.
Knowing in advance what your instructors where doing and showing would have made the trail more meaningful.

your e-book

Hmm, you asked some comments about your e-book for day-traders. It seems to me that you have tried to cover all aspect of day trading but not going very deeply in any of the subjects. I think you have written this book mostly for novice traders and as such it is undoubtly a good starting point. I am myself a little more seasoned trader and most subjects were familiar.

Free e-book feedback

For beginners--excellent, superb book.--Bur beyond that---not much value. Based on my current experience--I believe the "devil is in the details"--as to trading strategies/rules. The Vince experiment---could not find details on Internet about it---but I doubt that Vince actually gave these PHDs "exact" trading rules--Instead proabably gave really good "guidelines"--which is the difference between day and night in trading. An Example---In chatroom I'm in--a trader "gave" us his trading strategy using trendlines--buy/sell the pullback. He showed us a few charts---repeated the "KISS" theory. --But then we asked very specific, detailed pointed questions. These he would not disclose--and simply said it would take "lots of practice". I then mentioned the "devil is in the details". His only response was--"you can lead a horse to water--but you can't make it drink". --And I've found this reaction to be true about anyone else "disclosing" their strategy---nobobdy will give the "details" because this is what gives them their "edge" over other traders.
Respectfully submitted,
Pat

Re: Free e-book feedback

Hi Pat,

Thanks for your comments. Much appreciated.

Here's my response:

The Ralph Vince Experiment was published in CSI News Journal in March 1992, and you can find more information there.

And you are right: When it comes to trading, the devil is in the details. However, there's one caveat: Even if two traders would trade exactly the same strategy, they would NOT necessarily achieve the same results. Just think about it:

  • It is impossible to predict the slippage when using stop or market orders. Two traders, let's say YOU and John, place an order at the same time, and John might experience 1 tick slippage, while you are filled right on your specified entry price.
    .
  • You don't know whether a limit order will be filled or not. If a trading strategy requires the use of limit orders, you might experience the following situation: your order is filled, John's isn't, and the market retraces. While you took some profits using a limit order, John is still in the trade and sees his profits shrinking, and in the worst case turning into a loss.
    .
  • Another factor is the account size: If John is trading a rather small account, then his broker might liquidate his position because he experiences an intra-day drawdown that issues a margin call. Many electronic platforms are set up in such a way that they immediately liquidate a position, even if the market turns around and he would end the trade with a profit. John then experiences a loss, while you might realize profits on the same trade.
    .
  • What about the ability to withstand losses and your discipline to follow the trading strategy no matter what? Let's say that after a couple of losses John decides not to follow the strategy any longer, and that's exactly when the strategy starts bouncing back. You strictly followed the strategy and realized some profits, while John is missing them.
    .

And that's exactly the point I am trying to make in the book:

There's more to trading than just having a trading strategy!

And for THAT reason I don't have a problem at all sharing my trading strategies. I won't lose my edge in the market, because most traders would NOT exactly follow the strategy. In fact, to date 29,254 traders have watched my video explaining the rules of the simple trading strategy on YouTube, and i doubt that more than 100 traders are actively trading it every single day.

And even if they did: I assume that most traders trade 1-5 contracts. Do you really think that it would have an impact on the e-mini S&P, which is traded with 2,500,000 - 3,000,000 contracts per day, if 100 traders place a 5 lot order? - I doubt that.

I don't know much about the trader that YOU are following, but I am not holding anything back. Why would I? Smile

Hope this answers your questions and comments.

Thanks for the great ebook. It has helped me, as I was focusing on indicators to the exclusion of the trendlines and support/resistance.

Your e-book

I have read part of the e-book and so far it's excellent. I dived head-on into trading without a clue, seems like I am going backwards now and I will definately recommend your book to people I meet who want to trade.

comment on the e-book

Hi Markus,

I am an old subscriber of your site from Turkey.

I am a trader on turkish futures market VOB.Here we trade turkish stock indices like U30.

I am trading for 15 years,so you have to evaluate my thougts according to my experience.

Your book is very complete,I mean it handles every aspect of trading, for examples
: trading goals

The chapter for determining trends with help of trendlines is especially very suitable.

But I think, yo could design some systems according to technical analysis,I know you have given some indicators, but systems are failing.

The language of the book is very easy for the foreigners like me.So it is very suitable for the beginners of the business of trading..

I know that you are from the german origin and I also use german..:-)Lets speak a little bit:

Grüss Gott Markus,

Dein Buch hat mir sehr gefallen,du sollst wissen, dass du mir immer hilfst, wenn ich im Market bin.

I have just downloaded the pdf version of your free eBook. I may have not read it; but, a glance of the contents made me believe that the book you offered for FREE is going to benefit me and others.

Thank you.

About the free eBook

Hello Markus ,
i think it's great book to anyone who want to learn
and think of opening it's own trading business
it gives you almost all you nead for good start in the trading world .
The next is up to you to build your own plan and to implement it by yourself.

I like this book because

I like this book because ,there is very practic instuction to build good trading ideas and habits. Thanks nice work!

Thank you I do like what I

Thank you

I do like what I have read thru the first 68 pages. It has conveced me not to day trade yet. I do like the concepts involved and am working on my own system of owning just a few stocks and being heavy in one going up and then selling on it going down more than 2% and having alternatives to switch to of the best I can find.

The E Book

This book is terrific, easy to read and understand, very helpful and solid content. I liked it so much I bought the paper version. I liked that too and then bought the course, which is a more comprehensive and immediately applicable start to trading.

I'm collecting material to help me teach my children to trade They warmed up to Markus' presentation style immediately and that, as well as the very solid basis he forms, convinced me to invest in the teaching and have it on hand for them.

I have never traded the eminis, but I already have a profitable day trading plan to follow and start with, as well as some excellent training in setting up sophisticated trading software signals to help in the intial stages.

I can verify you will have several losing trades in a row

I have been trading full time for well over a year and while I am aware this does not make me a seasoned pro by any means, I am going to share with everyone just how important it was for me to stick with my plan.

Week 1. Monday entered into my trade everything looked great was 1/2 tick away suddenly the bottom fell out stopped out.

Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday it happened again and again!

End result that entire week was a complete week of losses not one single winning trade not ONE. Someone says to me Friday afternoon your laughing and I said yep all the way to the bank he looked at me so funny so I explained to him that my plan will workout and pay me back ten-fold next week. Anyway he says I would NOT day trade your going to go broke dude was his exact words and I said you are so wrong any business with a solid plan that is executed will succeed thats just fact and then I explained the laws of sales after all I know that best since I owned a business for over 23yrs., it's all in the numbers your going to win your going to lose and right now I am just getting the losing out of the way so I can win.

If I hadn't believed in my plan and stuck to it I would not have been able to take the beating the market had given me all that week period yeah it was stressful of course, but the five weeks after that made up for that and allot more simply because I did not alter my plan make your plan and stick to it but make sure its a VIABLE plan first with realistic goals don't say I want to make a million dollars and thats your plan it wont work THIS EBOOK Helps you past all that garble read it over and over!

Re: I can verify you will have several losing trades in a row

Hi Jeff,

Soooo true!

Trading is not a one-way street; losses are part of our business. The key is to keep losses small so that we can recover from them.

I know that many people think of day trading as gambling, but they are wrong. In fact, in my opinion day trading is SAFER than holding a stock for several days and weeks.

Here's why:

Whenever your money is in the market, it is at risk. As traders, we will never be able to eliminate the risk, but we can control it. We control risk by using risk management, position sizing and stop loss. When day trading, we can use a rather small stop loss, because the smaller the time frame, the smaller the stop loss.

And we are not exposed to gap openings on the next day, which make it almost impossible to control risk.

Here's an example:

Let's assume the closing price of a stock is $100, and you decide to place a stop loss at 98. The next morning the stock opens at 95, and you experience a much bigger loss than anticipated.

And regarding your losing streak: Make sure that you learn from your mistakes!

Remember the words of Jesse Livermore, one of the world's greatest traders:

"There is nothing like losing all you have in the world for teaching you what not to do. And when you know what not to do in order not to lose money, you begin to learn what to do in order to win. Did you get that? You begin to learn!"

All the best,

Markus

That is not meant as an insult, merely as a point of fact. Once I get a better look at your book, I will be able to tell more. However, the chapters and subjects look very very similar. That of course is not to say anything bad about your book, I'm certain it is very well thought out and will be of great help to me. Thank you very much for offering it for free and yes I will let other people I know who daytrade know about your free book.

thanks very much

E-book

Markus..I downloaded your E-Book and have already read it. Actually, I already had a hard copy. I have been a member of TradeTheMarkets for several months and have been using their live room and commentators to learn and similulate trading. I also have a mentor who has been a tremendous help, too. Your knowledge and expertise about day trading and what it takes to succeed are excellent. I am implementing some of your suggestions and techniques and will let you know how I'm doing. You seem very sincere in wanting to help people learn how to do this profession and I appreciate your effort. I may consider taking a "coaching" course through you sometime in the future.
Thanks again,
Joe

Feedback

I'm a complete newbie to the world of trading, but it fascinates me. I wanted to start with self education, before I begin to trade. I found this book on the internet, and it caught me. For some of the topics I go Google, but hey, I don't think someone may say he became an expert only from reading 296 pages.
It is a great start point, an introduction to the world of trading. So I do think its a perfect book to start with.
Thank you, Markus, for giving it free of charge.

Thank you

Do you know if there is a trading platform like the UK one for spread betting etc

Complete Guide to Day Trading - ebook

Markus,

Thanks very much for this eBook. As a new trader, I found this book the perfect portal to daytrading.  I have learned so much from it and it inspired me to sign up for your Home Study Course (HSC).   As for the HSC, it is beautifully structured and presented and crammed full of practical advice that anyone can readily apply to their trading methodology.  I don't think there could be better value for money anywhere on the web.

Thanks again,

good reading so far.

E-Book

Hey Markus,
I have read maybe 1/3 of the book and so far I think It appears to be well thought out and quite useful for a novice like me. I've only invested in a small number of stocks and held them for some period of time . Day Trading would be totally new to me should I try it . This book seems perfect for me. I'd love to read the other book you have out! - I just don't have any friends that I could think of that interested in investing.
Have you heard of a software put out to Fidelity clients called "Active Trader Pro" ? If you make 36 trades i one year they offer it to you for Free. I've aleady downloaded it and looked at it and it seem quite extensive . Any opinions or experience with this? To look at it go to Fidelity.com and use their search engine with Active Trader Pro. Let me know if you could please send me that other book, and also what you think of Active Trader Pro?

I love this book. In two days i have almost read it. I start to think that this book that has all the knowledge you need to become sucessfull trader, what is not on the the book you don't need to know it as a beginner. Also it is very easy to read, it is written in a simple and sometimes joyfull style. Thank you Markus for sharing your knowledge with evryone.

I DOWNLOADED YOUR BOOK

Thank you so much for your email and the attached book. I have read a few pages only but the content makes sense to me. I used to do real estate, but as we know,
It is not an option for the time being.
I've had been curious about day trading for some time, but never had a direction with which I felt comfortable following.
I LIKE YOUR BOOK. I WILL FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS IN IT. Who knows maybe after sometime, You may even see me by your office. At any rate, thank you for your book.

Carlos Montelongo

note: I will do my best to let people know about your company and book.

E-book feedback

I liked your book, it really gives that "practice" touch other text miss.

What I'd add to it, is more "day by day" practical trading shown with examples on how and why you entered or exited a trade. Expecially on Forex the graphical analysis you show, could be easily beaten: Boellinger Bands that in your sell example would instead skyrocket even if the security is trading at their top boundary, hideous fast moving and hard to predict lateral market that stays in 30 pips for 80% of the day (so if you choose not to trade, you are out. If you work you cannot be online in those 1-2 hours a day where there's an actual trend so are you supposed just not to trade at all?

How to deal with the above should be added.

Hi Markus

Really enjoyed the ebook,

I know and understand what type of trader I am and I really appreciate information that required me to think about just what I was reading,

Found your message was clear and very readable.

Feedback

I think the book is very good but misses some practical trade examples / methods that are easy to follow.

The fun thing is that you made it already and even made it a public video at

"A Simple Breakout Day Trading Strategy"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nby-Ohl2fWs&NR=1

All the book needs is some screenshots took from the above and the transcription of what you say, then it'll be the 101 of basics of daytrading.

EBook

Hi,

I have received the ebook. I want to say thanks for giving away this valuable resource. It has really simplifed the whole approach to trading for me and is filled with wise money management advice.

I am a newbie to trading and I am interested in educating myself to trade in the forex market for starters. Do you provide any services in this area? If so, I am interested in learning more.

I live in the Caribbean (Trinidad and Tobago)and my goal is to make at least $5000US a month. That amount would allow me to meet my needs and goals. I see your book is about day trading. However, based on my research thus far, new traders are discouraged from "day" trading in forex and more encouraged to "swing trade". Does your site have any information addressing this?

Thanks again.

I really like the book. It

great book I was just hoping for some day trading systemsas well.

e-book

Hello Markus ~
I did download the e-book, "The Complete Guide to Day Trading." Actually, I purchased and read the book last summer. I found it very useful, comprehensive and practical. I gave it to my son, who is also interested in trading. So I'm glad that I have supported your mission to inform at least one more prospective trader. But I'm sure I won't be seeing my book any time soon, so thank you for the opportunity to replace it with the free e-book. I've wanted to refer to it several times since I sent my copy to my son. Now I will have a handy reference as needed.

I also sent an email to Rockwell Trading today directly from the web site asking whether your webinar series "Can You Really Make A Living As A Day Trader" will be repeated. I was unavailable this past week to attend, but if the files are archived and available, I would be interested in viewing them if possible.

I recently retired and I am exploring whether day trading would be a practical activity for me. In addition to the funds necessary to open a day-trading account, the charting software and brokerage expenses involved with starting up may discourage me.

Thank you again for "The Complete Guide. . .". The clarity is helping me make a well-informed decision.

Best regards, Karen B.

feedback

I am new to day trading, so I don't have a ton of feedback. I do like the overall tone of you can succeed, but don't expect to get rich. I have read the book the futures game and it is extremely detailed, I feel like this book keeps things simple, enough to start. Milk before meat.

The biggest question I have is advice on starting to develop my trading system. There are infinite ways to find something that works for me, but how do you suggest I start? Is there a website I can use to create my system and test? What about live quotes, too? I know there is a lot, but want to know what is best as I get started, very green here.

Thanks for the book and the help.

Steve

Thank a lot for your seminar

Thank a lot for your seminar and the book. TradeStation does not quite have range bars (volatility), so I am not sure what other sideways trading pingpong strategy may be available. Should you know of any please let me know.

Hi
I'd like to thank you very much for your e-Book. It's a great help to get the right attitude for forex. Still I'm too afraid to trade because I had once a very bad experience,so I close to quick a good trade and even a bad trade would turn into positive, when I had waited some more.....
I started to read and it’s a pleasure to get through. I think it will help me to change my bad habits.
Thanks a lot and best regards
Felix

Excellent book, will buy the paper version ...

Just have read couple of chapters in the book. I have read something close to 5-8 different books about day trading and at the same time tried to be successful at day trading.
This book contains both the traditional basics and information for a more seasoned trader.
Well done with great content and also the strategy of making it available as an e-book. You will not loose anything on this. I will buy the paper version anyway.

Keep up the good work,
Shahram

The Complete Guide

Hi Markus,
Just a quick email to thank you for your e-book. I'm nearly 3/4 of the way through, on my way to a solid trading plan and practising daily. The e-book has been particularly helpful in helping me take action to get started - certainly very easy to procrastinate when sometimes the best way to learn and progress is to JUST DO IT!
I'm really looking forward to watching and learning from your live trading sessions online.
Thanks again,
Olly Wedgwood

Feedback on the e-book

Frankly, I really liked this book. I especially liked the part where trading strategies are explained. So many of them have been explained in fair detail, along with their advantages/disadvantages, that's really interesting. It really shows how much effort has been put in compiling the material.
And to add to that, the fact that it is free, it's an icing on the cake :-)

Book Review

Just finished your book and I thought it was Great. I went to the bookstore and wanted buy it in hardcover but it was not on the shelf. Day trading is new to me however i have watched the market for twenty years and had many good calls. I look foward to your online school you have today. Thank You

Complete Guide To Day Trading

Is one of the very best Ive seen yet. Extremely informative. Excellent treatment of the subjects. Real professional job in laymans language. Irwin Godin

Great book

I recently decided that I would like to try day trading to see if I could make a career out of it and ultimately be my own boss and work my own hours. After doing some research about the subject I came across this book. I have read about 80% of it and so far I have been very impressed.

The author is knowledgable and talks about the different markets you can trade in and what the major charactersitics are in each. But all the language is in a very easy to follow style.

Your are helped to define a trading a plan and also reminded about the importance of sticking to a plan. There are also a number of pitfalls mentioned that many novice and experienced traders fall into.

For a free book I am very very impressed and think anyone serious about starting day trading should read it. As the author points out, just reading the book wont make you a successful trader but it will definitely point you in the right direction.

Daytrading ebook

This is a very informative ebook. I am new to trading and what great information this book has. I plan on using all of the information to better my life and well being, it's not a get-rich-quick type of book but a well thought out plan for the long run but will give you insight on how to live more comfortably. Thank you for this great ebook!!

http://www.thecompleteguidetodaytrading.com/

I have been working day trading for about 6 months and this book is so far very very helpful ... I will keep you informed as to my success ... I appreciate you sharing this with all of us who aspire to become day traders ...

also it says there is some bonus materials availible ... how can I get that from your site?

Just a note that I am 66 and do not have a decent retirement (but not retired yet) set aside and will use this to supplement my Social Security ... my wife and I got a couple small inherendences about a year ago and have been fairly successful in returns from the market ... we bought in the market when it was down and when every one else getting out ... my 401k was going down and most of my friends paniced and took their money out ... I left it in, as I figured if I took it out it was gone forever and that happened to those that did, where as mine is back and above my previous percentage ...

anyway again thank you for sharing ... may God bless

feedback on your e-book

Excellent, particularly on psychological aspects and the warnings that day trading is not a get rich quick game. Only other ccomment is that it doesn't cover uk/usa differences.

The complete guide to day trading

Thank you Markus and team, I have studied the book and implemented your suggestions. I am very positive about the potential and am looking forward to excellent results. I could not find the link to the trade tracking spreadsheet. Please send me the link.

Marcus,
I want to Thank-You for several things:
First, for writing the book.
Second, for making it & all the Bonuses exceed expectations.
Third, making the book available in PDF format for free.
Forth, for not being another "gold-digger" that's just trying to get as much
money from me as possible

I had already bought & read the book in Kindle format (which makes the charts difficult) but now I have the charts in PDF.

As a Texan myself, I want to welcome you to Texas - we can always use more Good-Folks like you.

Hi
I have dowdloaded your ebook and I find it very usefull. It gathers in one document subjects that are usually spread among many internet articles. It is very usefull for a novice trader and it is free. A very good way to get more people interested in trading.

Wonderful book!

I've been a long trader, not necessarily a day-trader, but there are a lot of new concepts I should've been aware.

The book has been a great help.

Keep up the good work!

e-book

Thank you for sending the e-book. We have scanned it and found it useful. A large segment of the book contains information that we are familiar with. We were looking to gain an insight into your method of trading so as to help us decide whether to invest in your mentorship program. We like the idea of using volume and price momentum in trading the futures, so we would like to be exposed to strategies that use them.

Thank you again for giving us the opportunity to read your book. We would now like to read the book and study it in more detail.
