How does sailing relate to the stock market?
I’ll tell you! This morning I was at Buzzard’s Bay by New Bedford with my kids at the biggest regatta yet.
The kids had gotten up at 6:30 AM and left the house at 7:30 am just to be by the Bay at 8:00 am.
They were ready to launch at 9:30 am, amongst 180 other boats, but the weather didn’t permit it and we had to wait.
Unfortunately, the regatta had to be postponed 🙁
Here’s where I’m going with this…
While the kids were ready to sail, the sea was not. It’s obviously dangerous to sail with bad weather, and sometimes sailing is impossible when there’s no wind.
Just like trading in the markets, two conditions have to be met.
- You (trader) have to be ready and the markets have to be ready.
- When it’s just plain dangerous and risky to trade, you shouldn’t be trading.
Some days you may be sitting there and wondering what’s happening. Other days you may ask yourself, are the markets moving at all?
While you cannot influence the weather for better sailing conditions, in the same way, you cannot influence the market for trading.
So when the market is ready to trade, take that opportunity!
