We’re almost in San Francisco. But last night, we had to pull over for one more stop.
And we decided to stay at a Marriott.
I like Marriott hotels, and I’m a “Platinum Elite Member”, which gives me some perks.
One of them is getting access to the concierge club where they usually serve a pretty good breakfast.
But when we checked in, we got the bad news:
The concierge club is closed on the weekend.
The next morning, after a good night’s sleep, we went to the restaurant.
It was odd: The hostess welcomed us and showed us a table but…
Nobody else was there!
Shortly after we sat down, the waiter came and asked: “Would you like some coffee?”
“Sure, an almond milk latte would be great!”, I said.
But no such luck!
Oh well…. drip coffee it is.
Vivian orders an orange juice.
It’s still early, and we need to get back on the road, so we decide to have a light breakfast:
I’m just getting some yoghurt and Vivian orders a hash brown.
Both look very sad.
The yoghurt was literally just a packaged yoghurt on a white plate, and the hash “brown” was very white: It must have just kissed the pan for a second.
We finish our breakfast, and when the waiter returns and asks: “Would you like anything else?”, we think to ourselves “Hell NO!”,
… and I present my breakfast voucher that I got the night before.
The waiter says: “I need you to sign the check. I’ll be right back.”
I’m a litte bit surprised, but sure, I’ll wait.
Little did I know that …
He’s getting ready for the big scam!
He returns with a check over $24.56!
“There must be a misunderstanding”., I say. “Didn’t you see the breakfast voucher?”
He says: “Oh, that’s just a $10 voucher. It didn’t cover your breakfast.”
Huh?!?
I look at the bill:
Total: $32 plus some taxes = $34.56!!!
… MINUS my “Breakfast Voucher” = $24.56
I don’t mind paying for a good meal.
But a store-bought yoghurt on a white plate with a spoon for $9?
That’s a little bit excessive, don’t you think?
You know what is NOT excessive?
