Markus Heitkoetter was born in a small town east of Cologne in Germany. He worked for IBM after graduating from college and became a regional director.

Heitkoetter got tired of the long hours and constant travel, so he moved to Austin to pursue his lifelong passion for trading financial markets. He had traded as a hobby in Germany, but was frustrated by the limited number of stocks and the time difference for trading American markets.
